Volvo Polestar Racing ready for 2014 V8SC season start

Post by Johann »

Volvo Polestar Racing drivers Robert Dahlgren and Scott McLaughlin are set to take on one of the toughest racing championships in the world this weekend: the 2014 V8 Supercars. The season starts with the demanding Clipsal 500 race weekend on the streets of Adelaide, Australia where the drivers race more than 150 laps over three races.
”This is no doubt the biggest challenge of my life. I have a good feeling ahead of the weekend, everyone at Polestar and GRM has done an amazing job so far with the car. My goal for the weekend is to complete all three races and continue to gather data and experience for the remainder of the season,” said Dahlgren, driver of the #34 Volvo S60 Polestar V8 Supercar.

Dahlgren and McLaughlin will represent Volvo with two 650 HP Volvo S60 Polestar V8 Supercars in the championship, facing 23 other drivers from Holden, Ford, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz.

The brand new Volvo race cars and Polestar prepared V8 engines were completed only a couple of weeks ago. With just a single test session completed ahead of this weekend’s season start, a tough challenge lies ahead with a demanding street race in Adelaide with high temperatures both on and off the track.

”The Clipsal 500 is definitely one of the hardest on the calendar. If we get through this weekend, we can get through anything. We have to be realistic in our goals, we have a big task ahead of us to get going with the development phase. I am very much ready for the weekend,” said McLaughlin, driver of the #33 Volvo S60 Polestar V8 Supercar.

The premiere weekend features three races, with two 125 kilometer races on Saturday and a single 250 kilometer race on Sunday.

The action on track starts on Friday with three practice sessions, followed by two 15 minute qualifying sessions for the first two races of the weekend. Qualifying for the third and final race is held on Sunday, running in two sessions with the final session being a top-ten shootout.
