The race weekend at the Glen became just as dramatic as it could for TKi Motorsport. Suffering gearbox failure during practice late Friday afternoon, the team worked throughout the night, well into the following morning to replace the damaged drivetrain.
Ready for the Saturday morning qualifying session, Koropchak and the team were ready to clinch pole position. With lap times consistently falling after each lap, the unexpected occurred nearly half way through qualifying. With Koropchak clipping the apex of turn one, the out of control #22 Ford Mustang driven by Rusty Ferguson, shunted Koropchak off of the racing surface. With heavy body damage and altered suspension components, the hard-pressed TKi team relentlessly worked throughout Saturday evening to repair the car once again.
With the race Sunday afternoon ending sooner than expected due to an on track incident by another competitor in a different class, Koropchak and TKi Motorsport finished 7th in class out of fourteen cars.
“Being able to even race this weekend is nothing short of amazing. The team worked extremely hard, never giving up in an infuriating weekend,” said Koropchak.
Already preparing for next season, the off-season rebuild is going to be very busy for the team.
